A different era perhaps, with a different look on models. But comforting to see some has stayed the same :) In the article is referred to models 'of the splendid new Trans-Atlantic liners' that are also doing 'effective work in drumming up trade'.

Here in Holland are a few well know yacht builders doing just the same, to attract the rich and famous. There's even one company that has the policy to make a duplicate of any of the ordered vessel. With the exchange the new owner receives a fine scale model of their new toy, detailed both in- and outside to their preferred specifics. Needless to say the reproduction is courtesy of the yacht builder.

Back in the old days the term "drummer" was another word for traveling salesman of which America had lots of as the people spread out across the land.

There was a guy going around the Chicago show a few years ago trying to get a bunch of people to form some kind of business to build 1/12 th scale Yachts..... I don't think anything became of it.
