Miniature carbide router bits

For those who are not aware of them the Amana Tool company makes router bits specifically designed for 1:12 scale work. They have a 1/4" shank but they used to be available in Europe with metric shanks.

They are beautifully made bits created with precision. They are nothing like the router bits made for the Dremel, this is a whole different class of tool way far above the quality of those. They are expensive to make which by necessity is reflected in the price.

The link is to one of the dealers of the miniature Amana router bits "Tools for Today". A good company to deal with that offers good service.

The carbide router bit profiles available as sets or individual bits.

They also carry small sized detailing CNC wood carving bits

And CNC bits for metal and plastics

Karin, thank you for posting this.  I could easily justify the cost if I were manufacturing; it is good to know where to find a router bit that will continue to provide good, repeated use, and I can definitely understand the cost for the CNC machining, as that router could be running for hours depending on the detail of the carving.

Right now, I am glad that I am a casual user of router bits, so I don't have to explain to my hubby why my router bit cost more then my router :)

(I have the old Dremel 210 and corresponding table that I learned to use at GS.)

The other option is the Trend 1/12th  dolls house set out of the United Kingdom, there is a second hand set on E-bay at the moment for 40GBp or 125GBp new.

I have one of these sets and they are beautiful to work with, I have also added a link to the Routing Techniques PDF that comes with the set that shows how to use and what sort of shaping you can get from the set, but this is just the starting point for using these bits as I've used them in many more ways than described.

Someplace in my archives I have a companion .pdf file that went with the one you just posted. It shows a wide variety of shapes you can get by using the different router bits in combination with each other.  Trend used to have them all posted online on their website but they took them down a few years ago.

The Trend router bits are identical to the Amana bit profiles.

Hi Karin,

interesting that they are the same profile as the Amana set, The 3rd link in my post is for the PDF download so that people can look at the options. :)

I have the set and I love them. I also have the manual. And from ToolsToday you can get single bits, I found out when, being ridiculously clumsy, I dropped I think the 1/16 straight bit and broke it.....I also love the small profile bits with the tiny bearings on top, I use those a lot too. Got them at the same place (catalog)

There used to be two pdf downloads on the Trend site. One is the one file you put a link to. The second one was showed all the variations that could be obtained by combining the different bits together in series of cuts.

Hi Karin,

I'd never seen or heard of the combination bits version, but it has been fun finding my own ones to create. ;)
