Althea
I thought it would be fun to post some pictures of my knitting process. I LOVE watching the image take form from the bottom up. I remember knitting the Picasso sweater and seeing the eyes emerge--the whole face came together and it was so exciting. I tried to organize the pictures chronologically but they posted in whatever order they felt like.
Wm. R. Robertson
OMG.... That is incredible!...... And to think some people think those that work in wood or metal do all the measuring, counting and math..... There is no way I could even begin to do this......I knew these were unbelievable but to see them up this close is amazing!Thank you for sharing them! Althea
Thanks Bill! It's fun to re-examine what I have made...I try to get pictures while I am knitting but I am often too much "in the zone" to stop and take the few minutes to snap a shot. It is a good tool though as I sometimes forget how I did something and these pictures help jar my memory. I often include the pictures with the pattern I design as well because let's face it, knitting instructions are very mumbo-jumbo-ish and hard to interpret--even if they're my own pattern!! ElgaKoster
Fantastic work Althea, your tension is amazing, if one didn't know it was miniature I don't think people would be able to tell, they look full scale in the photos. I have tried knitting in miniature and it isn't easy. How long does it take on average to knit one of these?
Bill Hudson
Very fine work. I agree with Bill about the math and counting stitches. I have enough problems tying my shoes.
Althea
Thank you Bill and Elga! The Picasso one took me about 6 months to complete--from the initial design to the finished product. It was the first of an art history series I began back in 2005-ish. I think there are about 40 differnt colors of threads in there--I really wanted to have a lot of variation in the shading. It was sooooo much fun! Below is a picture of me working on the design--pixel by pixel

Natalia Frank
Love your work, Althea! It makes me grab my needles and start knitting instead of stitching. Very impressive and inspiring!
Catherine Ronan
Those pieces are nothing short of magnificent!!! Truely beautiful work. My mother tried to teach me to knit in RL scale. The directions might just as well have been in Chinese. They made my head spin.
ElizabethBraunEngNeedle
Very impressive! It's also nice to 'meet' someone really called Althea. I've read the name in books from the mid 20th century, but never come across anyone really called it.
Miniruth
40 different colors!!! I can't begin to Chatham it! But it is motivating me to pick up my needles and start practicing my mini knitting!
