Windsor Chair by Don Buttfield

Don made this chair in the late 1970's. He used various woods including hickory and bamboo, that he used for the delicate spindles. He shaped these by drawing them through a draw plate. The chair is shown in Robertson's Twin Manors.

Wow, those spindles are really tiny and delicate looking. I was looking at hickory in a wood shop yesterday, i know it has good bending properties...but it struck me as bit course grained for miniatures or do you get different species? Or maybe the piece I looked at was just badly cut?
