The sad and fascinating story of a beautiful Victorian mansion that was never finished on the inside because of the outbreak of the American Civil War, the family however did live in the hastily finished basement of the house for the next hundred years. The house and gardens are open to be visited as part of the Civil War Discovery Trail.

Amazing story, you never think that homes like this have never been completed and are a time capsule into history. I suppose that the thinking is that someone else would complete it or it falls down as ruins. Fact can be stranger than fiction.
